    Dear Families,

    On Friday, May 31st our choir competed in the Music in the Parks Competition held at Six Flags and we won first place by receiving a superior score. In addition, Matilda Ponce won best soloist.

    On June 1st our E-Sports competed in the Conduit E-Sports Five Borough Tournament of Champions.  Our E-Sports team took home the grand prize by winning the Tournament Championship Trophy. We also had E-Sports members take home individual or team prizes in the 1 v1 and 2v2 competitions.

    On June 3rd  we hosted inspirational guest speaker Christian Claudio who conducted a session aimed at enhancing our understanding of gang prevention strategies for our 8th grade students. This was a crucial opportunity for our students to gain valuable insights into addressing and preventing gang related issues within the school environment and also the community. 8th grade classes who did not attend Session 1 on (June 3rd) will attend Session 2 to be held on (June 13).

    On June 4th we had over 260 students sit for the Algebra 1 regents exam.  We are and are excited to be able to provide our students with access to high school level course work.  We are proud of all of you!!

    On June 10th we are excited to be partnering with Mentoring In Medicine, for a wonderful hands on science experience. This program helps to inspire and prepare students to become health care and science professionals. Mentoring in Medicine is dedicated to ensuring that all young people in New York City have access to enriching programs that affirm their identities, teach them valuable skills, and spark new possibilities in and out of the school day. On June 10th we’re going to investigate homologous structures through chicken wing dissection.

    On June 10th we will be holding our, in person open house for our incoming 6th grade students from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

    June 12th is a very busy day at IS230 as the following events will be taking place:

    • 6th grade trip to Adventure Land
    • 8th grade awards ceremony Session 1: (3:30-5:00); Session 2 (5:30-7:00) invite only
    • In Person PTA, SLT and PAC elections at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria

    On June 14th we have 5 8th grade classes taking the Living Environment Regents.  The classes taking the Living Environment Regents are allowed to come to school at 10:21 a.m.  We will provide them with lunch before taking the regents and their official attendance will be taken prior to the test.  The school day will run normal for those students who are not taking the Living Regents.

    On June 15th Mr. Salazar’s free family trip to the New York Aquarium in partnership with Urban Advantage will be departing at 9:00 a.m. from IS230, so please make sure you arrive on time so we can enjoy a full day at the Aquarium.

    As the weather is getting warmer we are starting to see students wearing shorts, tank tops, sandals and Crocs.  Please be reminded IS230 is a uniform school. All students and parents signed contracts to adhere to the uniform policy. Please visit our website or click on the link below regarding our uniform policy.

    A PTA donation letter was sent out to the home with the students. We are currently asking for your help in donating time and/or money. There is no monetary amount and parents are free to donate whatever they are able to do so. You can bring your donations to the main office located in the main building and place them in the PTA donation box or you can make a deposit via our PayPal account. The information for the PayPal account is in the school website.

    Free NYC Scholarship Accounts with money for college and career training!

    Every kindergarten, first grade, and second grade student enrolled in NYC public schools,
    including participating charter schools, can participate in the NYC Kids RISE Save for College
    Program!* Family income and immigration status do not affect eligibility. Eligible students are
    automatically enrolled unless their parents or guardians choose not to participate.

    Students receive a free NYC Scholarship Account with an initial $100. There are opportunities
    to get more money for your child’s account over time.** Organizations, businesses, and neighbors
    can contribute money to groups of students’ NYC Scholarship Accounts through Community
    Scholarships.

    Money in this account can be used to pay for a variety of college and career training expenses
    such as tuition, fees, and textbooks. For your child’s NYC Scholarship Account:

    • You do not need to deposit money
    • You do not need to provide a Social Security Number (SSN), Individual Taxpayer
    Identification Number (ITIN), bank account, or credit card information
